vlcsnap-2019-07-19-12h29m04s1394 Cards!! The Trump is J.A.K.Q. (4カード!! 切り札はJAKQ) – Far from the strongest of introductory episodes, but still a decent start nonetheless. Right off the bat, the show has a darker, more down-to-Earth feel than Goranger, though still retains a sense of absurdity, especially in CRIME’s aesthetic. ISSIS’s recruiting of the J.A.K.Q. Is very strange – Goro (Spade Ace) and Ryu (Dia Jack) are offered the roles (With Goro initially turning it down), Karen (Heart Queen) joins after losing her arms and to avenge her father, and Bunta (Clover King) is found dead (Apparently, he was working on creating an underwater city), and is revived as a cyborg unwillingly. The drug-dealers busted by Karen (A super cop at only 18, apparently) who later extract their revenge on her and her father are not revealed to be connected to CRIME, which is a real missed opportunity, and would have made the “avenging my father” angle all the more meaningful. Somewhat rough in areas, but a pretty enjoyable start. 3.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-12h30m31s256.png2 Ten-Jacks!! Destroy the Secret Factory (2テンジャック!! 秘密工場を破壊せよ) – A Ryu-centered episode that showcases one of CRIME’s means of finance – arms dealing. In this case, a long-range sniper rifle with bullets that burn people to a crisp. The idea of the JAKQ team keeping their cyborg identities a secret (Something sung about in the theme song and all) is completely thrown out the window by Ryu, who has not only let his former boxing-instructor know, but even gave him JAKQ’s phone number, in case he stumbles upon anything suspicious (Which in this case winds up being those rifles). A pretty fun episode with some good characterization for Ryu. 4/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-12h32m35s4545 Flashes!! Roar, Panther (5フラッシュ!! ほえろパンサー) – Somewhat of a “very special episode”, with CRIME giving stimulants to eager martial artists, in exchange for their cooperation in CRIME’s army (With them getting mechanical implants that allows CRIME to control them at will). One of the victims is played by Kenji Ohba, a frequent stuntman on these shows that will go on to play a much larger role in the next Sentai series, while his sister is played by none other than Etsuko Shihomi (Who fights alongside Mitchi Love, her co-star in two Sister Street Fighter films, a series that also featured Masahi Ishibashi as the villain in the first two), who swears revenge upon CRIME, making the episode feel very much like a Toei action flick from the time. It’s certainly a lot of fun, even if Shihomi is perhaps a bit underutilized. 3.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-12h33m52s9831 Joker!! The Perfect Crime’s Assassin (1ジョーカー!! 完全犯罪の刺客) – A Bunta-centered episode, and a very emotional one. Bunta encounters a young girl who happens to carry around the same doll his deceased sister did (And is even given a creepy clown puppet by her), only for the same fate to befall upon her and her family, in a very morbid story. The high-range laser cannon (Rather like the maser cannons of several Toho monster movies) is being demonstrated to potential buyers that bear a rather strong resemblance to the Klan. But in addition to killing hundreds on the flight, CRIME is stated to have been able to access about 30 of the victims’ life insurance, making a good chunk of money in the process. If that isn’t sleazy, I don’t know what is. Some great development for Bunta, including a look at the moment of his death that would lead to him being revived as a member of JAKQ. A excellent, emotional episode. 5/5

“Your heart is frozen and dry. Who’d love a cyborg, a person who is not a person?”

3 Snaps!! The Ballade of Betrayal (3スナップ!! 裏切りのバラード) – An episode that really showcases CRIME’s sleaziness, with them blackmailing both a scientist and his daughter, whom is an ISSIS agent. In exchange for her life, he must work them, and in exchange for his life, she must steal top-secret info on Spade Ace (Her and Goro are clearly close) and the Sky Ace. Another genuinely dark episode, with a decent deal of gun violence. DARK’s monster of the week is said to be carrying a nuclear bomb, certainly showcasing their vast, powerful arsenal. Guest stars Kenji Ushio. 4/5

9 Pokers!! The Beauty’s Trap (9ポーカー!! 美女の罠) – Another pretty enjoyable episode that certainly owes a lot to the spy genre, with lots of the JAKQ’s inner-gadgets being used, Ryu’s card game and the presence of the “mysterious beauty”. CRIME’s plot of extract seawater as a source of energy is somewhat confusing, but isn’t too important, with the main focus being on the team finding the source of the various whirlpools and shipwrecks, along with some fighting within CRIME’s ranks. 3.5/5

This guy is so badass, it hurts.

8 Supercars!! Super-Speed, 350 km/h (8スーパーカー!! 超速350キロ) – Released theatrically as as J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai: The Movie, a very fun “chase” episode with CRIME getting their hands on an explosive substance created by ISSIS and the team, particularly Ryu racing to retrieve it. A lot of thrills and great character moments for Ryu, giving us a glimpse at his boxing life before JAKQ. The only real problem is the fact the episode is a blatant car commercial (With the titles of each sports car even being shown), with the villain hitching a ride in real-life Ferari enthusiast Toru Kirikae’s Ferari BB. His real-life wife Masako even appears. It’s pretty shameless, but in a way, only adds to the charm, and doesn’t prevent the episode from being loads of fun. 4.5/5

6 Targets!! Exploding Flowers (6ターゲット!! 爆発する花) – An episode with yet another tragedy befalling a ranger, this time a friend (and her mother) of Karen’s, dying in her place via a rigged dress. The death of JAKQ is apparently top priority for CRIME, especially for this mission – stealing nuclear weaponry to sell off to other countries that want nukes for themselves. Get ready for an armed Finland! The flower monster is a lot different from the simple robotic ones before it, looking a lot more like a typical kaijin from Toei’s shows. A pretty good episode, even if the obligatory loss for Karen is pretty much forgotten about after the break. 3.5/5

Guest Starring Hiroyuki “Me and Ken Watanabe are the only Japanese actors Hollywood casts” Sanada

7 Straights!! The Deadly Fist of Hell (7ストレート!! 地獄の必殺拳) – A very martial arts-based episode, feeling even more like a Toei action film from the 70s than episode 3, with a young man named Katsuya out to avenge his brother at the hands of CRIME. Apparently, CRIME hosts martial arts tournaments where men can fight to become the top bodyguards for CRIME bosses, which Katsuya enters to infiltrate. CRIME has been distributing “Dream Flowers”, Amazonian flowers that apparently become incredibly addictive if smelled just once (Wouldn’t the flower monster from the previous episode be more appropriate here?). Definitely strange, but quite fun, with Katsuya being a quite memorable guest character, in large part due to his actor – a young Hiroyuki Sanda. 4/5

11 Collections!! Invitation to Happiness (11コレクション!! 幸福への招待) – A pretty strange episode with CRIME targeting the heir to an art fortune worth billions of yen. However, rather than wanting the collection for themselves, they want it to become property of the government, so they will then have more money to buy weapons from CRIME, apparently. Goofy as it is, it could very well imply the Japanese government has purchased weapons from CRIME before, which is pretty disturbing. Despite being estranged from his daughter, the deceased art collector apparently hired his lawyer’s wife to look after her for years. Later, when forced to work on behalf of CRIME, the wife becomes essentially the secondary villain, even getting killed off in an unflattering manner. Not exactly a highlight, but enjoyable enough, with some good scenes for Ryu and Karen. 3/5

13 Jackpots!! Burn! Flames of Friendship (13ジャックポット!! 燃えよ! 友情の炎) – An episode with another friend of the team’s finding himself wrapped up in CRIME, this time a college friend of Goro’s, who’s chemical that was made to evaporate pollution is being used on humans. The friend’s scientific background would have been more appropriate for Bunta, given his background in science as well, but their former relationship is still very believable. The monster takes center-stage here, with the CRIME boss being deemed a peon who only got the job for supplying CRIME with something they desired. Goro’s friend is portrayed by Koki Tanioka, who would be cast as Den Masao/Battle Japan in the next Sentai series Battle Fever J. 3.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-12h38m30s37510 Pyramids!! The Maze of the Golden Mask (10ピラミッド!! 黄金仮面の迷路) – Alright, though nothing too special. What starts as a chase story, with CRIME wanting their hands on an Egyptian artifact being guarded by JAKQ (Thanks to some some wealthy European collector wanting it and willing to pay top dollar) eventually becomes an amnesia story, with Goro being the one affected. Some decent scenes, notably Karen attempting to remind him of when he saved her life from the car accident back in the first episode, but nothing stellar. Guest stars Susumu Kurobe, in his only Sentai role. 3/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-14h24m00s279
At least Bunta has found his waifu.

Blue Key Quiz!! The Riddle of the Secret Room Murder (青いキークイズ!! 密室殺人の謎・なぞ) – A Bunta-focused episode, and a pretty confusing and just plain stupid farce. The basic plot of a CRIME boss using fashion shows as a front for jewelry smuggling is alright, but there are so many strange sequences in getting to it, it becomes hard to follow, such as the sequences of Bunta disusing himself as a photographer (Which does admittedly lead to a few laughs) and more notably, the team trying to figure out how a designer working under the CRIME boss was murdered, which results in Bunta awkwardly buying a mannequin and determining how it tied to the murder. Its just weird, and also contains sequences like Bunta in drag and the JAKQs putting on a fashion show wearing hideous outfits. This episode marks the beginning of the end for Bunta’s characterization, turnign him into the plucky comic relief, until the arrival of another character later on. The unlucky designer is played by Shinji Todo, who would be cast as the titular role in Spider-Man, along with appearing in Denziman a few shows from now. 1.5/5

All Supercars!! Violence!! Great Violent Dash!! (オールスーパーカー!! 猛烈!! 大激走!!) – If you can believe it, ANOTHER blatant car commercial episode, with Toru Kirikae even appearing once again, also bringing along with him fellow racer Makoto Kaneko. Weirdly though, they aren’t portrayed in the most flattering light, with them opting to steal the nice Porsche owned by a man, which CRIME happens to want, thanks to the location of hidden gold being in it. Though some of the racing is impressive, the episode lacks any of the thrills had by 8 Supercars!! Super-Speed, 350 km/h, and just comes off as a poor imitation. 2/5

The Crimson Occult!! Ghost Story – Vampire (真赤なオカルト!! 怪談・吸血鬼) – A slight improvement over the previous two episodes, but still a serious downgrade from some of the earlier episodes. The main cast is clearly undergoing some changes, with Karen acting a bit more “girly” with her making coffee and being afraid of vampires, Bunta acting goofier and fawning at the sight of pretty women, and Joker’s pet hamster now talking (The obligatory talking animal of early Sentai shows), with it being revealed as a cyborg. Introduced are ISSIS agents Keiko Hayashi/Number 7 (Who disappears after this episode) and Junko Yamamoto/Number (Who disappears after a few episodes), who seem to be the show’s take on the 00s from Goranger. The plot of the episode isn’t exactly coherent, with a Mummy-themed vampire monster (Roll with it) draining blood from young women and using it to create powdered blood to sell on the black market (To organizations like Shocker in order for them to revive fallen monsters?), while also turning them into slaves for CRIME. Just why only young women were targeted is not clear. Featured is the first and only female CRIME boss. Not a very good episode, but at least watchable, even if this marks the show’s downfall. 2.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-12h41m24s499Black Baseball!! The Attacking Miracle Ball (黒いベースボール!! 襲撃する魔球) – A comedic episode that is certainly a far cry from the show’s original intent, but manages to be pretty entertaining. Ryu has been coaching a little league team this whole time, while also being a world-renowned boxer and later hustler in Las Vegas, apparently. The CRIME boss claims his plan to create baseballs that target the JAKQs, a form of revenge after they destroyed his weapons factory, losing him 100 Billion yen, will earn CRIME 200 Billion yen. The guy’s clearly incompetent and just wants to save his ass from being killed at the hands of Iron Claw, but a bit more emphasis on that might have made it funnier. But as it stands, a fairly amusing episode. 3.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-12h42m21s386Black Demon Moon!! Ghost Story – Hell House (黒い悪魔つき!! 怪談・地獄の家) – Another “ghost story”, with the heiress of a valuable house constantly being haunted by the specter of her recently-departed little sister, which is no way perpetrated by her cruel uncle that clearly wants the money to himself. Pretty low-key, but entertaining enough, with some creepy bits, particularly with the little girl. Bunta is the one to stumble upon the whole situation, hearing of the young woman seeing her deceased sister. Bunta having a deceased kid sister was of course a big part of his character early on, and that would certainly give him reason to want to help with the case, but not once is it brought up, with it being more implied he’s interested due to being attracted to the woman. A real missed opportunity. Still, not too bad, with one of the sleazier CRIME bosses. The first appearance of Yoshiko Iijima/Agent 9, who will actually stay for the remainder of the show. 3/5

Blue Whirling Tides!! The Face of the Secret Spy (青いうず潮!! 秘密スパイの顔) – Not too bad of an episode, with CRIME using some dirty tricks to get what they want, in this case breaking a guy’s legs and promising to fix them only if he does what they say. Said item of their desire are the blueprints to a project (Being worked on by the man’s twin brother) that extract gold, silver and uranium from sea water. And despite oceanographers being the central characters of the episode, not once is Bunta’s past as one brought up. Combined with this and his failure to mention his sister last episode, its almost like he’s suffered amnesia. Still, not too bad. Scientist’s efforts to turn sea water into gold will finally come true in an episode of Sun Vulcan a few years later. 3.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-12h43m04s807Great Crimson Adventure!! Demon Extermination of Bottomless Haunts (真赤な大冒険!! 底なし魔境の鬼退治) – Alright, but pretty generic, even if this were anything other show, with JAKQ out to investigate a missing group of hikers who were purportedly attacked by a demon, something that seems a little outside their jurisdiction (Even if, of course, it winds up being CRIME). For the first time, there is no CRIME Boss, with the monster in charge of the labor camp and everything. When Goro and Bunta are caught, instead of just killing them, Iron Claw insists they do labor like the other prisoners. I guess their enhanced strength could get them to dig gold faster, but its still really stupid. Not a bad episode, but not great. 3/5

Messenger of Darkness!! The Transparent Monster Runs the Darkness (暗黒の使者!! 透明怪物が闇を走る) – Much like a lot of the other recent episodes, serviceable, but really not that great, with CRIME once again trying to get their hands on a valuable artifact (In this case a valuable ruby from made up country). The identity of the CRIME Boss is a bit of a surprise, but is revealed a bit too early to really make any sort of impact. The other guy is still a jerk, by putting JAKQ in danger with a fake ruby just to see if CRIME would attack. 3/5

Baseball is the only sport that exists in Japan.

The Rose-Colored Baseball Era!! CRIME’s Slugger (バラ色の野球時代!! クライムの強打者) – ANOTHER baseball-themed episode, with a supposed defector from CRIME in the form of Devil Batter, who apparently only wanted to play baseball. Of course, the outcome is pretty predictable, and it is kind of a shame, as Devil Batter’s interaction with the others is rather sweet. Still, some funny moments, including a bonkers climax make it worth a watch. Introduced is Agent 10 (Her real name is not disclosed), who will also be lasting for the remainder of the show. 3.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-13h47m03s594Big Red Counterattack!! Attack the Suicide Bomber Army (赤い大逆転! 自爆軍団を攻撃せよ) – A pretty enjoyable episode, with the JAKQs (Without their gigantic, burdensome capsules being accessible) being lured into a deathtrap with four crazily dressed cyborgs, lead by a monster that’s literally has garbage for a head. Essentially the last “normal” episode for CRIME, before their major makeover, and also the last episode with Joker as JAKQ’s primary leader, with him actually getting some good time to shine. A little silly at times, but fun overall. 3.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-13h47m59s302
“I do nothing, but people love me anyways!”

White Superman! Big One (白い鳥人! ビッグワン) – A “game changer” episode of sorts that reveals CRIME has in fact secretly been led by an alien supercomputer called Shine this whole time, and with them having gained enough money to fund a full-on invasion, despite having a string of abysmal failures (Though one can assume they’re doing better in the other countries they’re in), they commence it…by attempting to destroy as many ISSIS industrial complexes as possible. A pretty mediocre episode with almost nothing in the way of plot, though the introduction of a certain Big One definitely makes it notable. Also introduced is ISSIS’ new cook Tamasaburou Hime, who leaves a terrible impression. 2.5/5

Hell’s Angel – Paid by CRIME in beer

Demon? Angel?! The Marvelous Flute-Playing Man (悪魔か? 天使か?! 不思議な笛吹き男) – The second episode to feature Big One, and like the first, he doesn’t really get a whole lot to do. Once again, it feels like the episode was written before he was conceived. A pretty weird episode as a whole, with the monster, Hell’s Angel apparently having an affinity for children and luring them away ala the Pied Piper. Apart from his soft-spot for children, he apparently doesn’t wish to defeat JAKQ using violent methods. Unsurprisingly though, that whole aspect of him gets ditched, though he does admittedly use his lured children against Ace in a clever fashion. In what little Big One there is, he dons the first of his many crazy disguises. The team is openly critical of his command style, berating him for slurping ramen in the command room and getting mad when he opts to play pachinko instead of fight alongside them. Kind of funny considering how they embraced him with open arms last episode. 3/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-13h50m00s827Victory? Death?! Demon Shogun and Mechanization Army (勝利か? 死か?! 鬼将軍と機械化軍団) – Another episode that was likely written before Big One’s conception, as he appears even less this time around. Goro takes center-stage, with the antlion monster (Who looks a bit like an evil Kamen Rider) capturing each individual JAKQ, minus Big One to lure Spade Ace, as a form of revenge for him damaging his eye. For the first time in what seems like ages, the JAKQ’s occupations before their conversion are mentioned, even if they play no role in the episode itself. The climax features and obligatory child character somehow knowing how to operate the Jack Tank, just like the kid knowing how to operate a train in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie. Not a terrible episode, with some good moments showcasing Goro’s bravery and kind-heart, but nothing spectacular. 3/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-05-17h01m52s595Invaders!? The Mysterious Space Pirate Ship (インベーダーか!? 謎の宇宙海賊船) – Possibly the most space-oriented episode yet, with the villains being Space Pirates, from a flying pirate ship that seems to appear every time missiles are stolen. Said flying space pirate ship bears a resemblance to the ship seen in Toei’s Message from Space, though this predates it by a year, and would also be used for future Sentai shows, namely Denziman and Gokaiger. Tamasaburou gets a bit more to do here, with his nephew seeing the pirate ship, and later claiming to see a living skeleton in school, a subplot that takes up way too much time when the pirate ship was more than enough. Big One is of course still underutilized. Competent enough, but still pretty weak. 2.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-13h50m53s379
This guy was rejected from Shocker for being too Nazi-crazy.

The Despot’s Ambition!! Break it! The Death Camp (独裁者の野望!! 砕け! 死の収容所) – An episode that needs to be seen to be believed. A borderline tasteless story with Fuhrer Crocodile capturing prominent people in ISSIS and their families, and putting them in an internment camp modeled after Auschwitz. And that’s about the extent of his plan. It’s as sleazy as it sounds, but actually is one of the better episodes in a while, with the captured ISSIS officials and JAKQ’s attempts being fairly tense (Sans Karen’s idiotic “jump scare” sequence). Big One assumes his most infamous disguise to fool Fuhrer Crocodile – Hitler himself. 3/5

My Secret! A Space Monster in My Pocket (ぼくの秘密! ポケットの中の宇宙怪物) – A seriously goofy episode with a dog-hating octopus monster Tentacle Monk attempting to get his hands on an alien-detecting MacGuffin via shrinking and hiding in a crystal ball owned by a boy. Tentacle Monk is the first CRIME monster to be fully organic, and is confirmed to hail from outer space, apparently being friends with Shine. He displays the bizarre ability of shrinking things and destroying them via throwing a capsule (Used on two dogs, no less), yet opts to kill scientists working on the old fashioned way. Just another episode that’s too silly to be taken seriously, but not crazy enough to be much fun. 2.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-13h54m37s680
Shisa! Shisa! Shisa! Kiiinguu…Shiiiiiiiisaaaaa!!!

Go, Seven Changes! Iron Claw vs. Big One (行くぞ七変化! 鉄の爪対ビッグワン) – At long last, an episode that actually focuses on Big One, even if he still winds up doing little when transformed. Essentially a cat and mouse game between Bamba and Iron Claw, with each constantly assuming crazy disguises (Iron Claw is apparently extremely talented in disguising himself as women). And it’s actually fairly fun, with Miyauchi being his regular disguise-donning self. What little plot there is comprises just of a monster trying to destroy an ISSIS base, who’s weirdly telekentically linked with Iron Claw, hence Big One’s wanting to get to him. Definitely goofy, but unlike a lot of the others, rather fun. If the whole show was like this after the retool, I’d probably have a more favorable opinion of it. 3.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-13h56m44s643The Code That Calls Death! Deadly Poison, Cobra Twist (死を呼ぶ暗号! 猛毒コブラツイスト) – A surprisingly compelling episode with CRIME attempting to get their hands on a poison created by scientists during WWII hidden away…at least until the climax, where things just get dumb. But the climax isn’t enough to totally ruin the episode, which manages to be fairly intriguing (Somewhat similar to the Shinigami Chameleon two-parter of Kamen Rider). And in fairness, the killing blow used on the monster isn’t too far removed from the Goranger Hurricane’s many insane things unleashed. 3.5/5

Red Impact! The Spy is a Fourth-Grader (赤い衝撃! スパイは小学四年生) – Basically a rehash of The Rose-Colored Baseball Era!! CRIME’s Slugger, only with the invader robo befriending a car mechanic’s family instead of JAKQ (Its all a ruse to build a warhead-armed car to crash into ISSIS HQ). Iron Claw wants a covert agent, so what better to not raise suspicions than a killer whale robot monster??? The scenes with the monster interacting with the family are rather heartwarming, but of course we know what’s going to happen. It would have been such a better twist if he WEREN’T evil. In one of the show’s more infamous sequences, Heart Queen dances to Pink Lady’s Nagisa no Sinbad during the fight. Not abysmal, but mediocre. 2.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-13h58m08s031Which is the Real One?! Danger, Big One (どっちが本もの?! 危うしビッグワン) – Another Big One-centric episode with him assuming multiple crazy disguises to throw off the enemy, who also just so happens to be a master of disguise. And like that episode, a pretty fun romp, silly as it may be. The plot is almost nonexistent, with the Chameleon wanting his hands on the son of an ISSIS scientist who’s off working on…something in America…for some reason. But it manages to be a fun enough time. 3/5

The Blitzkrieg Squad Annihilated?! CRIME’s Cooking Class (電撃隊全滅か?! クライムのお料理教室 – Yet another Bamba-centric episode, with him pissing off the monster (Who bears a striking resemblance of Cannon Buffalo of the Kamen Rider V3 movie, which also starred Miyauchi fittingly enough) countless times. The buffalo monster’s scheme of turning ISSIS members against is each other is apparently accomplished via the leaves of a Brazilian tree called Mugaria, which could just as well be what groups like Shocker would use in their antidotes that turned people crazy. Bamba disguising himself as Tamasaburo, who the monster targets to cook food featuring said leaves is pretty funny, but is wasted potential, as it could have given Tamasaburo a bit of time to shine. During their final duel, Bamba dresses extremely similar to his previous Tokusatsu character Ken Hayakawa of Zubat. Disappointingly, there’s hardly a “duel” between them – it’s just the usual shtick of JAKQ fighting him and Big One only arriving for the final move. Some funny bits and Miyauchi is always entertaining, but could be better. 2.5/5

vlcsnap-2019-07-19-13h58m54s185Infiltration! CRIME Fortress Island (潜入! クライム要塞島)/Big Victory! Farewell, JAKQ (大勝利! さらばジャッカー) – A surprisingly compelling finale in a lot of spots, but sadly not enough to save the show overall. Shine, having seen Gorath apparently, plans to move Earth out of its orbit to nearby his homeworld, thereby making conquering it much easier. Certainly has potential for a finale with some serious stakes (In vein to the finale of Mirrorman or episodes of Ultraman Ace or Leo), but we never see it commence. Upset with Iron Claw’s failures, Shine appoints Great King Icarus to oversee the operation. Icarus and Iron Claw have surprisingly good chemistry, constantly trying to outdo one another, and its a shame he wasn’t brought on as the same time as Shine. Much of the first part involves Goro and Karen infiltrating CRIME’s island base, and being injured in the process. There are some surprisingly powerful scenes between the two of them, with Karen vowing to save Goro’s life considering he saved her’s. There almost seems to be a potential romance blossoming between the two (Something that WAS intended to happen in the show), though fortunately not much comes of it. We get to see Big One actually fight when morphed, with Iron Claw wanting to “duel” him, and while it should be cool, it only makes the past episodes all the more disappointing. And that pretty much sums up this finale – surprisingly decent, but not as impactful as it would have been under a better show. Of course, that’s not to say it’s all good. Karen spends most of the second episode badly injured (Though this does result in the return of Joker), Shine’s revelation is underwhelming, to put it kindly and Iron Claw’s demise to a complete and utter farce (Though this isn’t the last we’ll see of him). And Big One again disappears for the very last fight against Iron Claw. Not a bad ending, but it’s to a pretty bad show, sadly. 3.5/5

J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai vs. Goranger (ジャッカー電撃隊VSゴレンジャー) – The very first Sentai crossover movie, and a very fun one at that. Iron Claw apparently survived his demise (And good riddance considering what a joke it was), and gathers CRIME bosses from across the world to fly out into space (Still convinced he’s the emperor of the solar system), nuke Earth, and then come back and conquer it. CRIME Boss General Sahara (Played by Hideyo Amamoto in his only Sentai role), who is battling the Gorangers in the Sahara desert appears to have some Black Cross soldiers under his command, which would indicate he was a member before joining CRIME (Hence the Goranger’s involvement). Apart from Goranger, several other Ishinomori-created heroes are mentioned to be combating CRIME in other nations, including Kamen Rider V3, who is fighting Baron Iron Mask (Played by Kenji Ushio) in Europe, Kikaider, who is battling Hell Boxer in Mongolia and Kamen Rider Amazon, who is…just fighting in the Amazon, apparently. This is the first indication that Kamen Rider (At least the Showa series), Kikaider (And therefore Kikaider 01) and Super Sentai (At least Goranger and JAKQ) are all set within the same universe (With The Prisoner, Inazuman, Zubat and the Metal Hero series later joining in). Peggy is unfortunately the only Goranger to appear in-person, but her appearance is still a lot of fun. Like most movies, it values action over story, but manages to be thoroughly entertaining. 4/5vlcsnap-2019-07-19-16h03m12s313
